At 15:35 on Sunday, January 20th, Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Síochána to assist two hillwalkers in near Lugnaquilla.
The pair became disorientated while walking near Lugnaquilla and made the correct decision to call mountain rescue (MR) for help. MR personnel were able to locate the hikers using Sarloc Rescue, which placed them inside the impact zone in the Glen of Imaal Military Range. The hikers were advised to stay where they were while MR and Irish Defence Forces met up to escort the pair safely from the military range. The incident was stood down at 17:25. We would like to thank the Óglaigh na hÉireann / Irish Defence Forces for their assistance.
The Glen of Imaal Military Range is an active military site where live-firing exercises take place. There is also a safety risk from unexploded ordnance on the site. There are two safe routes (Camara Hill and Table Track) for members of the public to cross the range. Please do not deviate from these routes.
