have a keen interest in the outdoors
-
be Garda vetted prior to starting training
-
have their own transport
-
-
Before acceptance as full-team members
-
have completed a Mountaineering Ireland Mountain Skills Assessment
-
have a first aid qualification recognised by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). First Aid Responder (FAR) is a minimum requirement, but Emergency First Responder (EFR) is preferred
-
New-member training usually takes six to nine months and covers all of the basic skills required of a mountain rescue team member. These include stretcher packaging, basic crag skills, search skills, poor-visibility navigation, communications, and helicopter safety. Each aspiring team member must pass a number of assessments before being accepted as rescue team members. Please email pro@dwmrt.ie for more information.
