Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team (DWMRT) recruit new team members every year to eighteen months. We limit intakes to smaller numbers to optimise training and skill development. Potential new team members must meet the following criteria:

  • Before starting training

    • be over 21 years of age

    • have a keen interest in the outdoors

    • be Garda vetted prior to starting training

    • have their own transport

  • Before acceptance as full-team members

    • have completed a Mountaineering Ireland Mountain Skills Assessment

    • have a first aid qualification recognised by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). First Aid Responder (FAR) is a minimum requirement, but Emergency First Responder (EFR) is preferred

New-member training usually takes six to nine months and covers all of the basic skills required of a mountain rescue team member. These include stretcher packaging, basic crag skills, search skills, poor-visibility navigation, communications, and helicopter safety. Each aspiring team member must pass a number of assessments before being accepted as rescue team members. Please email pro@dwmrt.ie for more information.
