At 14:00hrs, Dublin / Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue were tasked by An Garda Síochána to a report of a walker who became unwell while he was hiking up Lugnaquilla.
The group were in the area of the Great gully at the south Prison side when one of the walkers, a male in his 60’s began to feel unwell and could not proceed any further. Luckily there was a nurse in the group and she made the decision to contact the emergency services to alert Mountain Rescue that the man may be having a heart attack.
Once tasked, Mountain Rescue Personnel made their way to the casualty’s location, however due to the weather closing in and the possible seriousness of the patient, Rescue 116 was tasked to evacuate the patient. After the patient was packaged and winched into Rescue 116, the rest of the group were escorted safely down to the Ow valley by Mountain Rescue personnel who had now arrived on scene.
Team was stood down at 16:31hrs.
Duration of incident: 2 hours, 31 minutes.
Thank you to all the agencies involved.
