At 13:57 on Wednesday, January 30th, Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Síochána to provide assistance and specialist equipment in a multiple person evacuation near Glencree, Co. Wicklow.
While both teams mobilized, Gardaí themselves commenced the evacuation of people from their vehicles. Due to the extremely icy conditions on the ground, one couple remained in their car, awaiting specialist mountain rescue (MR) equipment in order to reach safety. MR winter-equipped vehicles were able to get within 300m of the couple and personnel continued on foot the rest of the way. The couple were assisted one at a time from their vehicles into an insulated casualty bag and vacuum mattress, and guided to safety. The incident was stood down at 16:20.
