08.08.2010 Two Rescues in Twelve hours
Yesterday, Saturday the 7th August 2010, the Mountain Rescue Service in Co Wicklow was called out to assist a 23year-old hillrunner who experienced difficulty in descending Djouce Mountain following a competition. Reek SundayIt was a misty wet start to an early Sunday morning on the reek. The annual pilgrimage saw 7 team members and 3 friends from Calder Valley MRT gather at rescue base for the 4a.m. start. As hill party" Wicklow 1.6" we were joined by colleagues from Kerry MRT and The Mourne MRT. A quick briefing and a last check on equipment and we headed up the mountain to take up our position. Team Members Compete in 'Dublin Mountain Plod' Half MarathonDublin & Wicklow Mountian Rescue Team Members, David Butler and Pat Reid completed the “Dublin Mountain Plod” on Sunday the 18th of July coming within the top 50% of runners. Both team members official finishing time was 2 hours, 1 minute and 30 seconds. The half marathon of 21km had a sting in the tail with an 820m climb through the scenic Dublin Mountains.
