Youth rescued from the Spinc

Youth rescued from the Spinc

Today, Monday 27th September, at approximately midday, a 14 year-old student fell while on a school outing to the Wicklow Mountains National Park.

The group, from a Dublin school, was walking along the 'Spinc' route above Glendalough valley, when the teenager fell and severely gashed his knee. His teachers and leaders were able to attend to his wounds, but Mountain Rescue was called to assist in getting him safely off the mountainside.

The Coastguard helicopter was requested for assistance, and an airlift was cleanly executed from the top of the cliffs above the Upper Lake, and the student and one of his teachers were transported to Tallaght hospital for further treatment.

Mountain Rescue services attended the scene and would like to thank all those others who assisted - Wicklow Mountains National Park staff, Irish Coastguard.
