St Mary's School for Deaf GirlsHere's a story from a while ago but it's worth sharing and it shows being part of the team isn't all about helicoptors, lost people and broken ankles. A couple of months ago two of our team members were asked to give a brief mountain safety talk to some of the girls from the Marian School, St Mary's School for Deaf Girls before they attempted a hike in the Wicklow Mountains. The two lads gave their presentation, showed the girls some of the equipment we keep in the Mountain Rescue van and explained how it's used. The girls and their teachers were so impressed with the two volunteer rescuers that they asked them to accompany them on their hike. Of course the lads were delighted to be asked and had a wonderful day completing the circuit of glendalough with the girls and their teachers. The picture to the right shows one of our rescuers practising his communication skills with one of the girls from the school. |
