Sally Gap - Road Condition Warning for all MotoristsWicklows Mountain Rescue services are this afternoon issuing a renewed warning regarding road conditions in the Sally Gap and similar mountainous areas in the Dublin and Wicklow area. Melt water which has formed underneath the sheets of ice and decayed snow in such areas has led to extremely dangerous road conditions which pose a very serious safety risk to any motorist attempting to travel via these routes. Experienced Mountain Rescue drivers have assessed the road condition in the past hour and have determined that large sections of the frozen surface are sliding underneath the wheels of their vehicles, greatly increasing the risk of skidding uncontrollably on the road surface. Even well equipped 4x4 vehicles and experienced drivers should avoid the area as a consequence. In light of the thaw which has taken place in the last 24 hours we believe there may be a degree of complacency with regard to these alerts as primary routes and many secondary routes are now in relatively good condition. We'd urge members of the public to heed this warning as a very serious expression of concern for their safety this evening and for the coming days.
