DWMRT Take The Plunge Into Swiftwater Rescue for Winter
There is definitely a cold snap in the air and plenty of wind and rain for the usual collar up, shoulders hunched turn to winter and the risk of flooding that comes with it.
The team have been preparing for this with lots of Swiftwater Training and now we have over 20 Swiftwater Responders for river bank searches and just recently our first team of Swiftwater Technicians who can perform river searches and swim rescues if required.
Our mild October meant that water levels were lower than normal on the course so when swimming and night searching around Jackson Falls wasn't enough team members headed south to the Barrow to make sure they found themselves in more troubled waters.
Hopefully, these new skills will be confined to top up training instead of actual callouts but the vagaries of the Irish winter are best prepared for than hoped against. Thanks to Paul McNally of Rescue 3 Europe for a great course.
