Busy weekend for Wicklows MR TeamsWicklow's Mountain Rescue Services, comprised of the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Teams, had a busy weekend with a total of 3 callouts from recreational visitors to the Wicklow Mountains. On Saturday the 7th August the two teams were asked to assist a 23year-old hillrunner who experienced difficulty in descending Djouce Mountain following a competitive hill-running event. The race organisers had been able to bring the lady down some of the way to be met by Mountain Rescue volunteers during which time she had been attended to by one of her friends, a qualified nurse. Suffering from a pre-existing condition, the runner was only temporarily incapacitated, and following care she quickly recovered. Thank you also to the Wicklow Mountains National Park staff who assisted. At 2am, Sunday 8th August, a man was reported missing to the Garda Siochana who alerted the Mountain Rescue teams. The Mountain Rescue Teams prepared for a difficult night-time riverbank search near Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow. Fortunately the uninjured man was found a short time later. At 1am, Monday 9th August, the teams were asked by GardaĆ to assist two photographers who had ascended Luganaquilla Mountain late in the evening. They had subsequently become disoriented on their descent and eventually strayed onto the Glen of Imaal Artillery Range which straddles one side of the mountain. The teams located the two people involved and guided them back to a nearby trail from where they were transported in a 4x4 vehicle to safety. The teams would like to thank to all agencies who assisted during the weekend including An Garda Siochana, The Irish Defence Forces and Wicklow Mountains National Park staff. |
