A young man who was injured and in need of assistance sucessfully attracted the attention of Mountain Rescue personnel by using his torch to flash a signal for help at 21:15hrs.
The mountain rescue personnel, who happened to be out on a night navigation training exercise, in the Glendalough Valley, recognised the distress signal and raised the alarm.
Both the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team, responded to the request for help and quickly mobilised rescue personnel to assist at the scene.
Due to the fact that the Glendalough Valley is effectively cut off due to landslides and subsidence following the recent snow and floods, rescue personnel on scene, provided emergency medical assistance on site and then evacuated the injured party with the assistance of the National Park rescue boat.
The casualty was delivered safely to an awaiting HSE ambulance and transported to hospital.
The teams were stood down at 23:15hrs.
