At approximately 14:00hrs on Sunday, January 15th, with an incident ongoing, An Garda Síochána tasked Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team to come to the assistance of a family on Camara Hill in the Glen of Imaal. The family of four, two adults and two young children, became disorientated when low cloud descended whilst they were walking. It began to rain heavily around this time, and continued raining for the duration of the incident. The family dialled emergency services when they realised that they were unable to establish their location.
Mountain rescue (MR) used Sarloc Rescue technology to establish the people’s location, which was close to the Army artillery range. Given the danger of unexploded ordnance on the range, they were advised by mobile phone to return to the summit of the hill and wait for help. An MR hill party met the family and escorted them safely back to their car. The incident was stood down shortly before 16:00hrs.
Mountain rescue would like to thank Óglaigh na hÉireann Irish Defence Forces for their assistance.
