At 19:30 the Gardai requested the assistance of the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team to attend the scene of a road traffic collision (RTC) in the Aughavanagh area.
Due to the adverse weather conditions and recent rain fall, the roads were covered in a couple of centimetres of ice, making driving conditions highly treacherous.
The incident involved several cars which had left the road due to hazardous conditions.
Several members of the public were escorted on foot out to safety and a mountain rescue 4x4 removed one injured motorist and an elderly driver to safety.
